lsucu exec 11/12
below you can find a little introduction from each of the 8 exec members of LSUCU for 2011-12.

Chair – Lewis
Hey! I’m Lewis. I actually grew up in Loughborough and have now ended up doing my degree (Mechanical Engineering) at Loughborough University! When I’m not buried under a pile of work or busy planning my eventual escape from Loughborough, I love playing and listening to music, playing sports (mostly football and squash) and spending time getting to know people better. I was asked to Chair the CU this year, which basically means I try to make sure everything runs smoothly. This involves organising and leading meetings, encouraging people to get involved and making myself available to help everyone else out!
VC – Jenny
Hey! I’m Jenny and I’m a fourth year Mechanical Engineering Student. I am also the Vice-Chair of LSUCU and my job is to look after all of you and keep you informed via the weekly facebook email. I also have the awesome job of organising our amazing weekend away in November! As you’ve probably heard by now engineers don’t have much free time, but in the small amount of time I do have I enjoy reading, singing, listening to music and hanging out with friends. I love getting to know people, so if you ever feel like a chat come find me anytime!

Secretary – Shana
Hey! My name is Shana and I started studying Sport and Exercise Science at Loughborough in 2010. This year I have taken over the role of secretary, which basically means I’m supposed to be super organised! My job is to organise speakers to come talk for us at our weekly meetings and general admin jobs like taking minutes at exec meetings – not a job for the fainthearted. I’m originally from Horsham, West Sussex (most people have never heard of it) and in my free time I love to play sport! I play hockey for Loughborough Students but also love netball, basketball and football (I’m a lifelong Chelsea FC supporter and Frank Lampard fan!) Other than that I love anything South African, the Cheesecake Shop in town (a must visit for any freshers) and long, hot summer days.

Prayer – Charles
Hello! I’m Charles and I’m in my second year studying Aero engineering. I’m the CU’s prayer co-ordinator. This involves praying (a lot!) and encouraging CU members to get along to prayer meetings, so that we spend time with God and rely on him for everything we need. Our main aim is to see God glorified on Campus and people saved, and to do this we need to be constantly praying to God for help. In my spare time I love to relax, spend time with friends, eat curry and just have a good time. Feel free to drop me an email any time if you have any questions!

Mission – Adam
Hi! I’m Adam, the missions co-ordinator for LSUCU. As a first year student at Loughborough, I’m currently doing a foundation year before starting a Mechanical Engineering degree here. My role in the CU involves working closely with the missions team and committee to plan and organise outreach events on campus. Please feel free to suggest any fantastic ideas about how we can make Jesus known across campus! I love to see students excited about sharing the gospel with their friends, motivated by what God’s grace has done in their own lives! In my free time I enjoy being in the great outdoors, either on foot or on my mountain bike. I also love playing music with friends, eating Jaffa cakes and drinking filter coffee.

Treasurer – Ben
Hi! I’m Ben, I’m the CU’s Treasurer. I’m from Oxfordshire and came to Loughborough to study Aeronautical Engineering. I’m in my 2nd/3rd year. My role in the CU is very simply to look after the money
. I’m a bit of an outdoors person, I love climbing, walking and camping and therefore i’m also a member of the Mountaineering Club on campus. Unfortunately as any engineer will complain about, I don’t tend to have free time! I’m looking forward to the next year and to seeing God move on campus!

Publicity – Lizzy
Hi, I’m Lizzy and I’m the publicity co-ordinator for the CU! I study Graphic Communication, which is especially useful for this role and is definitely a real degree, although some people will try and convince you otherwise! My job is to organise all the publicity needed for different events that we put on and make the CU’s presence known on campus! It’s such an exciting job as it’s through publicity that students really get to find out about opportunities to hear the gospel! If you are creative, good with graphics, good with web stuff, or just really want to help out with publicity (lets face it, who wouldn’t?!) please contact me, there’s always jobs to be done! I love music, singing, playing my guitar and lots of arty stuff too. Most of all I love to socialise so come find me for a chat!

Small Groups – Chris
Hi, I’m Chris and I’m the Christian Union’s Small Groups Coordinator. I’m currently in my first year of a PhD in the materials engineering. Before my PhD I completed an MSc in physics also in Loughborough and before that I did an MPhys (undergraduate masters in physics) at Southampton University. Although God didn’t hand me the most direct route to my PhD, via my MSc, he has settled me down in Loughborough to work in his Church, for which I am truly thankful. At the moment it may seem all I enjoy is study but I also revel in the time spent with friends, the people in the CU and with the members of my church in Loughborough.
In the CU I organise and help plan the Small Groups. These are groups of students, of any or no faith, who meet together to discuss and debate what the bible says and how this may effect their lives in 2011. They are a chance for you to meet together to express your opinions and work through some of the big questions of life from a Christian perspective, so come along and make your own mind up!
