what do we believe

LSUCU is affiliated to UCCF:thechristianunions, and works alongside them to see God glorified through Jesus’ great commission:

“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’” Matthew 28:18-20

We believe we are a mission team working at the heart of Loughborough University Campus, students reaching students for Christ. We are students, led by students, supported by Christian Union Staff Workers and local churches. Our call is to partner with God in His rescue mission to students.

Our Mission

Making disciples of Jesus Christ in the student world. Submitting our lives and our thinking to God’s word, living in dependence on his Holy Spirit. Communicating the gospel to students in a way that is meaningful, relevant, clear and honest.

Our Vision

Students coming to faith in Christ, growing and going on to become disciple makers in the world.

Our Values

Confidence in the Gospel: The biblical gospel is at the heart of our identity. We are committed to celebrating, uniting in, and sharing the liberating truth of the gospel as summarized in our declaration of belief.

Urgency in evangelism: We believe in relevant, engaging and honest proclamation of gospel truth that speaks to students where they are. Christian Unions are first and foremost missionary communities, with a vision for students from all nations on our campuses and throughout the world.

Passionate about Christ crucified: The cross of Christ is at the heart of who we are and what we do. It is the content of our message, the driving force behind our vision and absolutely central to our mission.

Committed to uniting Christians: Christian Unions are mission teams of believers drawn from diverse church backgrounds – charismatic, conservative, Baptist, etc. We are committed to working together in gospel unity with a shared vision, strategy and values.

We are committed to the local church: We promote involvement in the local church as the lifelong and primary place of Christian community, teaching, discipleship and ministry and involvement in Christian Union as a short-term mission team on campus.

Our Strategy

We believe that students are best placed to reach students for Christ. Student-led mission teams give maximum access to students, maximum integrity with university/college authorities, maximum creativity, and maximum opportunity for students to learn to live and speak for Jesus in their ‘workplace’.

who are we?

LSUCU stands for Loughborugh Students Union Christian Union

We are the representative group of UCCF:thechristianunions at Loughborough University, associated to Loughborough Students Union as an official Club and Society. We are a lively community made up of students from a variety of local churches who enjoy sharing fellowship, worshipping, witnessing and socialising together. We are committed to seeing the Gospel of Jesus Christ spread on Loughborough University Campus.

What do we do?

We meet together each week to learn from the Bible, praise God, as well as loads of other activities, such as small group Bible studies, prayer meetings, and evangelistic talks and events.

We organise various social events as well throughout the year, including amongst other things our annual weekend away, an easter trip to New Word Alive, and the odd sports event.

Check out the events page for details of what’s going on! And don’t forget to look at the Freshers pages for our Freshers week events!

“I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Students Get Involved

  • First things first – come along and say Hi! We hold loads of events throughout the term, especially in Freshers week, on top of all our regular weekly meetings. Come find us on a Tuesday evening, 7pm at the Chaplaincy, say Hi, and maybe come for a drink with us afterwards, we’d love to get to know you.
  • Get stuck into a church! Sunday mornings as a student just mean time to sleep for most, but break out of the mould! Finding a church is so important to give you regular weekly Bible teaching, fellowship and discipleship to develop and encourage you as a person, and to help you to grow spiritually during your time away from home at Uni. So make the most of those first few Sunday mornings to come and try a church. Members of the CU will be meeting people on the first few Sunday mornings to take them to various different churches to give you the best opportunity to try the many different styles. But, there are twenty eight churches in Loughborough – don’t try to go to them all. Pick a church you feel you fit into fairly early on, and get stuck into the church family. This will also really help you settle in to life away from home!
  • Get stuck into student life! During this time you will make really close friends very quickly – embrace the change. It’s great to get to know other Christians and share your journeys, but don’t forget those in halls, in your house and on your course. Non Christian friends are great too! Get stuck into Uni life, try the many clubs and societies, enjoy nights at the union, and be prepared for deep and meaningful discussions at three ‘o’ clock in the morning! Get involved, but keep your focus on Jesus and live for him.
  • There are so many ways students can support the CU, from helping with missions events, getting involved with small groups, helping out with music and ‘tech stuff’, setting up meetings, and all the other events we do as a CU, there’s always a job for someone willing to serve!
  • Get in touch, get to know us, and get involved.
